The Uttarakhand Cabinet on Tuesday approved the State Fragrance Revolution Policy 2026–2036, a landmark move aimed at expanding aromatic crop cultivation across the state. The meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, finalised a roadmap that seeks to bring 22,750 hectares of land under aromatic crops, directly benefiting nearly 91,000 farmers in its first phase.

Director General of Information Banshidhar Tiwari said, “Under the Uttarakhand Fragrance Revolution Policy 2026-2036, the target is to cover 22,750 hectares of land with aromatic crops through 91,000 beneficiaries in the first phase.”

As per the policy, farmers will be given 80% subsidy on the cost of cultivation up to one hectare, while those cultivating beyond one hectare will receive a 50% subsidy to encourage wider participation. Officials said the initiative will give a major boost to the state’s agricultural economy and promote sustainable farming.

In another key decision, the Cabinet approved the creation of eight new posts to set up studios for five free educational TV channels under the PM e-Vidya programme, run by the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT). The move is aimed at ensuring smoother operations and wider digital learning outreach.

The Cabinet also cleared funding of ₹27.85 crore for the construction of 1,872 affordable houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, to be implemented by the District Development Authority in Bagwala, Rudrapur (Udham Singh Nagar). The project is designed to benefit people from low-income groups.

Meanwhile, the government announced relief measures for apple farmers devastated by the August 5 cloudburst in Dharali and Harsil, which triggered mudslides and destroyed orchards. CM Dhami said the state would procure apples at fixed rates — ₹51 per kg for ‘royal delicious’ and ₹45 per kg for ‘red delicious’ and other varieties. Grade C apples will not be covered under the scheme.
