Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has suggested that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Congress, and other political parties in Delhi should come together to strategize on how to challenge the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the upcoming Delhi Assembly Elections 2025. Abdullah, speaking to the media, acknowledged the need for a cohesive approach but stated that his government has no direct involvement in the elections.
“As of now, I can’t say anything on this issue. We do not have a connection with the Delhi assembly polls. The AAP, Congress, and other political parties on the ground should decide how to fight the BJP in a better way,” Abdullah said when asked about the alliance’s support for AAP over Congress in the battle against the BJP.
He further noted that while AAP had emerged victorious in the previous two Delhi elections, the outcome of this year’s elections would depend on the will of the people. “This time we will have to wait for what the people of Delhi decide,” Abdullah added.
Meanwhile, former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah emphasized that the alliance formed in the previous general elections was not confined to contesting polls alone. “The alliance exists to strengthen the country and remove hatred from our society. Those who think it was just for parliamentary elections should come out of this misconception,” Farooq said, pointing to the larger objectives of unity beyond electoral contests.
As the Delhi Assembly Elections draw closer, the political landscape in the capital remains tense. The elections, set for February 5, will be crucial for all parties, with the AAP hoping to maintain its dominance after a stunning victory in 2020. The BJP, on the other hand, aims to reclaim power in Delhi, where it has struggled to gain ground in recent years.
The Congress, which was in power for 15 consecutive years before AAP’s rise, has faced major setbacks in the past two elections, failing to secure any seats in 2020. Meanwhile, AAP dominated the 2020 elections, winning 62 out of 70 seats, while BJP managed only 8 seats.
