A political storm erupted in Delhi on Thursday as Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders alleged they were blocked from entering the Delhi Assembly ahead of the session. According to the party, barricades were placed at the entry road to prevent them from accessing the Assembly complex.
AAP leader Atishi, who was recently appointed Leader of the Opposition, took to social media to criticize the move, claiming that the suspension of party MLAs had now escalated into a complete restriction on their entry. She stated that such an incident had “never happened in the history of the Delhi Legislative Assembly.”
The controversy follows the suspension of 21 AAP MLAs, including Atishi, after a ruckus over the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report on the Delhi liquor policy scandal. The report had led to multiple arrests, including those of Arvind Kejriwal and former Deputy CM Manish Sisodia.
In response, Delhi Minister Parvesh Verma defended the action, stating that AAP MLAs had violated Assembly rules by raising slogans while the Lieutenant Governor was addressing the House.
