Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday firmly announced that his party will contest the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections independently, ruling out any alliance — including with the Mahagathbandhan or the INDIA bloc.
“AAP will fight alone in Bihar. There will be no alliance with anyone — not even with the Mahagathbandhan,” Kejriwal declared during a press conference held in Delhi. He emphasized that while AAP is a part of the INDIA coalition at the national level, the alliance was limited to the Lok Sabha elections and would not extend to state-level contests.
This announcement sets the tone for AAP's entry into Bihar's political battlefield, as the state heads towards Assembly elections expected in October–November 2025. Though the Election Commission has yet to declare official dates, political activity across the state is gaining pace.
Bihar’s political landscape has been volatile in recent years. After the 2020 Assembly elections, the NDA formed the government with Nitish Kumar as Chief Minister. In 2022, Kumar broke ties with the BJP to align with the RJD-led Mahagathbandhan. But in January 2024, he returned to the BJP-led NDA fold, forming a new government yet again.
