The second phase of the high-intensity ‘Operation Clean Chandola’ is set to begin on Tuesday, with security and civic authorities ramping up preparations to rid the Chandola Lake area of encroachments and illegal activities allegedly linked to Bangladeshi infiltrators. The operation is aimed at restoring law and order in the area, which officials claim has become a hotspot for illicit activities.
Police Commissioner G.S. Malik highlighted the gravity of the situation surrounding Chandola Lake, located under the jurisdiction of the Isanpur police station. “Chandola Lake… had become like a hub for Bangladeshis for quite some time. There were many illegal activities taking place there, such as prohibition-related activities, drugs, prostitution, and various other illegal activities in that area. In 2025 so far, out of 250 Bangladeshis caught in Ahmedabad, 207 were apprehended from the Chandola Lake area,” Malik said.
Following the success of the first phase of the operation, which led to the clearance of approximately 1.5 lakh square meters of encroachments, authorities are now poised to push forward with renewed force. “Currently, Ahmedabad’s Municipal Commissioner has had extensive discussions with his team and the Isanpur police station about how the operation will be conducted in the morning. Both sides are fully prepared,” Malik added.
The second phase is expected to span 3–4 days, though authorities are allowing flexibility based on ground-level realities. “The demolition operation is expected to continue for about 3-4 days, though it might take 1-2 days longer or shorter. There are approximately 50 teams from their side with different JCBs, techies, and other equipment. We hope and want the operation to be carried out smoothly and efficiently,” said Malik.
