Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Wednesday backed West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s ‘Mrityu Kumbh’ remark and slammed the Uttar Pradesh government for alleged mismanagement at the ongoing Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj.

Referring to the tragic stampede that claimed several lives, Yadav alleged that FIRs were not being registered for victims from Bengal and other states. “What Mamata Banerjee said about the situation is correct. Many from her state have lost their lives, and yet no FIRs are being filed. The Maha Kumbh has a long history, but who was responsible for these arrangements?” ANI quoted Yadav as saying.

He further criticized Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for allegedly misleading the public. “The CM said arrangements were made for 100 crore people, which gave the public confidence. But this Kumbh has witnessed the highest number of missing persons, deaths, and illnesses. The BJP is exploiting public emotions,” he remarked.

Mamata Banerjee, addressing the West Bengal assembly on Tuesday, had said she respects the holy Ganga and the significance of the Maha Kumbh but termed the event ‘Mrityu Kumbh’ due to alleged poor arrangements.
