Amethi MP Kishori Lal Sharma Supports Rahul Gandhi’s Call For Respect Towards Smriti Irani After Her Defeat

This move by Rahul Gandhi not only reflects his vision for a more positive political culture but also underscores the importance of maintaining decorum and civility in public discourse, regardless of electoral outcomes.

In a recent statement, Rahul Gandhi has called on his supporters to refrain from making derogatory comments or trolling Smriti Irani on social media following her defeat in the Amethi constituency. This comes after Irani, who had defeated Rahul Gandhi in the 2019 elections, lost to Gandhi family loyalist Kishori Lal Sharma by over 1.6 lakh votes in the recent general elections.

After her defeat, Smriti Irani commented, “An ordinary BJP worker had sent the Gandhi family packing.” In response, Rahul Gandhi took to social media, posting on X, “Winning and losing are part of life. I urge everyone to refrain from using derogatory language and being nasty towards Smt. Smriti Irani or any other leader for that matter. Humiliating and insulting people is a sign of weakness, not strength.”

Kishori Lal Sharma, the newly elected representative from Amethi, echoed Rahul Gandhi’s sentiments. “He is right. Rahul Gandhi stays within his limits. I relate to his statement… Victories and losses are a part of life. These are not our values to use such language against someone, this not our sanskar ke aise bhasha ka istmal karne chahiye,” Sharma stated, aligning with Gandhi’s appeal for respect and decency.

This appeal by Rahul Gandhi aligns with his ongoing efforts to promote a more compassionate and respectful political culture. He has consistently emphasized the need for an environment of love and understanding, which he often refers to as a “mohabbat ki dukaan” (shop of love), amidst what he perceives as an atmosphere of hatred.

Smriti Irani, who was the Union Minister for Women and Child Development at the time, had sarcastically commented on Kishori Lal Sharma’s nomination. “The Congress nomination and the entire Gandhi family backing out from a battle in Amethi is significant because it is a proclamation of defeat for the Congress party in Amethi,” she remarked.

Irani further criticized Rahul Gandhi, saying, “This is not the first time Mr. Rahul Gandhi has run away from Amethi. He had run away in 2019 as well. The only difference is last time he sought comfort in Wayanad and this time he chose not to contest at all. So it is the second time Mr. Gandhi shied away from a battle in Amethi,” she told NDTV.

The recent exchange of statements highlights the intense political rivalry between Rahul Gandhi and Smriti Irani. However, Gandhi’s call for respectful discourse is a step towards fostering a more civil political environment. By urging his supporters to avoid derogatory language and personal attacks, he aims to set a tone of dignity and respect in political interactions.
