In a significant administrative move aimed at enhancing local governance and development, Home Minister Amit Shah announced on Monday that the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) will establish five new districts in the union territory of Ladakh. The decision, as detailed in Shah’s post on X (formerly Twitter), underscores a strategic effort to bring governance closer to the people and ensure that benefits reach every corner of the region.
The newly formed districts will include Zanskar, Drass, Sham, Nubra, and Changthang. This expansion is part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for a more developed and prosperous Ladakh.

Shah emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating, “In pursuit of Narendra Modi’s vision to build a developed and prosperous Ladakh, the MHA has decided to create five new districts in the union territory. The new districts, namely Zanskar, Drass, Sham, Nubra and Changthang, will take the benefits meant for the people to their doorsteps by bolstering governance in every nook and cranny. The Modi government is committed to creating abundant opportunities for the people of Ladakh.”
This move is expected to enhance administrative efficiency and provide more localized governance, addressing the unique needs of each district and fostering regional development.
