Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Amit Shah, expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for allocating a substantial Rs 17,155 crore for the development of railways in Gujarat in the 2025 Union Budget, according to a statement from his ministry on Wednesday.
In a post on X, Shah praised the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, stating that under his guidance, the railway network in Gujarat, as well as across India, is witnessing a golden period of growth and expansion. He emphasized that the Union Budget for 2025-26 would further accelerate this progress.
Highlighting the stark contrast in funding between the current and previous governments, Shah pointed out that between 2009 and 2014, during the opposition’s tenure, only Rs 589 crore was allocated for railways in Gujarat. In comparison, the Modi government has made a historic allocation of Rs 17,155 crore, increasing the amount by a remarkable 29 times in the year 2025-26.
Amit Shah also noted the impressive progress in electrification in the past decade, stating that Gujarat’s railway tracks have been electrified 22 times more than before, with 97 percent of the tracks in the state now electrified.
Looking ahead, Shah announced that 87 railway stations across Gujarat would be developed as Amrit Stations at a cost of Rs 6,303 crore. Key stations like Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Vadodara, Jamnagar, and Surat are among those set for redevelopment.
Additionally, seven major stations are under redevelopment at a cost of Rs 5,572 crore, including Gandhinagar Capital, Sabarmati, Somnath, Surat, and Ahmedabad.
As the Member of Parliament for Gandhinagar, Shah expressed particular pride in the Rs 799 crore being invested for the redevelopment of Gandhinagar station. He said the transformation of the railway network in Gujarat would significantly boost trade, industry, transportation, and employment in the state, according to the ministry’s release.
