In a major breakthrough, Punjab Police have neutralized Gursidak, one of the key accused in the recent grenade attack in Amritsar, during an encounter. Gursidak, son of Jagjit Singh and a resident of Bal village, was shot dead when police attempted to intercept the suspects in the Rajasansi area.

The grenade attack, which took place around midnight on Friday, saw an unidentified individual on a motorcycle hurl an explosive device at a building, causing significant damage but no casualties. The blast, captured on CCTV, triggered panic among residents in the Khandwala area.

High-Stakes Encounter in Rajasansi

Acting on intelligence inputs, Punjab Police's CIA and Chheharta SHO teams tracked down the suspects on Monday morning. As the police attempted to stop their motorcycle, the accused abandoned the vehicle and opened fire.

  • Head Constable Gurpreet Singh sustained a bullet wound on his left arm.
  • Inspector Amolak Singh’s turban was grazed by a bullet.
  • A third round struck a police vehicle, escalating tensions.

In retaliation, Inspector Vinod Kumar returned fire, injuring and killing Gursidak, while his accomplices managed to escape. Injured officers were rushed to the Civil Hospital for treatment. Police have since launched an intensive manhunt to track down the remaining suspects.

ISI Link Suspected

Punjab Police suspect the involvement of Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) in orchestrating the attack. Over the past four months, Amritsar and Gurdaspur have witnessed multiple explosions targeting police posts, raising concerns over cross-border terror links.
