Zeeshan Siddique, son of late NCP leader Baba Siddique, has raised serious concerns regarding the investigation into his father’s murder. On Thursday, Zeeshan met Joint Commissioner of Police (Mumbai) Gautam Lakhmi, alleging that the police have not provided the chargesheet in the case and have yet to interrogate key suspects.
Zeeshan, an MLA and son of the slain leader, expressed frustration over the lack of progress. “The police said they couldn’t provide the chargesheet, so we have appealed to the court for it,” he said. “We specifically inquired whether the individuals we named in our statements had been questioned. Unfortunately, they haven’t been interrogated yet.”
Baba Siddique was shot dead on October 12 near his son’s office in Nirmal Nagar, Mumbai. The murder, carried out by three assailants, shocked the political community.
Allegations of Bias in Investigation
Zeeshan also raised concerns about alleged protection given to builders implicated in the case and questioned the immediate attribution of blame to notorious gangster Lawrence Bishnoi.
“Mere seconds after my father was shot, a narrative was set that Bishnoi was responsible. If that is the case, bring him to Mumbai and interrogate him. Why are certain individuals being shielded in this investigation?” Zeeshan questioned.
Seeking Support from Leadership
Zeeshan expressed hope in securing support from Maharashtra’s top leaders. “I plan to meet Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who was a friend of my father, and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar to address these issues. Following this, I will consult with my legal team to explore options for challenging the investigation,” he said.
The Path Ahead
Zeeshan’s remarks have intensified scrutiny of the Mumbai Police’s handling of the high-profile case. As the family awaits the chargesheet and thorough questioning of suspects, the demand for transparency and accountability in the investigation continues to grow.
