BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj launched a scathing attack on Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday, accusing him of indulging in “political theatrics” ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections. Her remarks came in response to AAP’s announcement of a door-to-door registration drive for two welfare schemes — Mahila Samman Yojana and Sanjeevani Yojana — set to begin on December 23.
Speaking to IANS, Swaraj raised doubts about AAP’s intent and financial credibility, citing examples of “unfulfilled and false promises” made during the Punjab Assembly elections.
“They are making promises today. Similar promises were made in Punjab. It’s December 2024, and not even a single rupee has been transferred to the women in Punjab. Is respect for women just an election gimmick for Kejriwal?” she questioned.
Highlighting the financial challenges faced by the Delhi government, Swaraj accused AAP of misleading the public. “You are promising to give out money to people, but you do not have money. From where will the money come? Delhi CM Atishi in November requested the Centre for a Rs 10.5 crore loan. Why are you lying to people when you don’t have money? Stop making false promises,” she said.
The BJP MP emphasized the need for “real leadership” in Delhi, accusing AAP of focusing on populist measures rather than addressing pressing issues.
AAP’s registration drive for the two schemes has been positioned as a step towards empowering women and providing affordable healthcare. However, the BJP’s critique raises questions about the financial viability and execution of these programs.
