In a significant development, the Election Commission has granted the NCP Sharad Pawar faction official approval to accept donations, providing a crucial relief ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The decision follows a contentious split within the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) after Ajit Pawar’s departure, resulting in two factions vying for recognition.
The Election Commission had earlier recognized the Ajit Pawar faction as a separate entity, assigning it a distinct name and symbol. However, today’s ruling allows the Sharad Pawar-led group to operate independently and legally accept contributions under Section 29B.

Sharad Pawar, the stalwart leader of the NCP, expressed gratitude following the decision. “Today, we had four cases in Delhi—three in the Supreme Court and one in the Election Commission. Despite the challenges faced by our party and the wrongful usurpation of our symbol and identity, the people of Maharashtra have shown unwavering support,” Pawar stated.
The approval to accept donations is seen as a significant boost for the Sharad Pawar faction, enabling them to mobilize resources effectively as they prepare for electoral battles ahead. Pawar acknowledged the resilience and loyalty of party members and supporters, emphasizing the importance of unity and perseverance in the face of adversity.
