The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday accused former Congress president Sonia Gandhi of having ties to an organization financed by the George Soros Foundation, which the party claims has advocated for Kashmir’s independence.

In a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter), the BJP highlighted Gandhi’s alleged association with the Forum of the Democratic Leaders in Asia Pacific (FDL-AP) Foundation, where she serves as co-president. According to the BJP, the FDL-AP Foundation has received funding from the George Soros Foundation and supported positions treating Kashmir as a separate entity.

“This association between Sonia Gandhi and an organization backing the idea of Kashmir as an independent nation demonstrates the influence of foreign entities on India’s internal affairs,” the BJP stated.

Allegations of Foreign Influence

The BJP alleged that Sonia Gandhi’s role in the FDL-AP Foundation underscores foreign interference in Indian politics. The party also claimed that during her tenure as chairperson of the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation, partnerships with the George Soros Foundation showcased a pattern of foreign funding influencing domestic organizations.

Further, BJP MP Nishikant Dubey announced plans to pose 10 questions to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in the Lok Sabha regarding these alleged connections. Dubey claimed that the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP), a media portal financed by Soros, has collaborated with opposition parties to undermine India’s economy and defame the Modi government.

“Rahul Gandhi’s recent press conference criticizing the Adani Group was live-streamed by OCCRP, which he also cited as a source. This points to a strong and dangerous nexus aimed at destabilizing India’s economic growth,” Dubey asserted.

Kashmir Controversy

The BJP further alleged that the FDL-AP Foundation’s statements on Kashmir echo foreign agendas, thereby undermining India’s sovereignty. The party described this as a betrayal of national interests and accused the Congress of aligning with entities that seek to weaken India’s position on the global stage.

Congress Response Awaited

The Congress party has yet to officially respond to the allegations. The BJP’s claims, however, have sparked significant political controversy, with opposition leaders likely to refute the charges in the coming days.

These allegations come amid heightened tensions between the ruling BJP and the Congress, as both parties prepare for upcoming electoral battles. The accusations of foreign meddling are expected to add fuel to an already polarized political landscape.
