In preparation for the 2024 Haryana Assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) released its first list of 67 candidates on Wednesday, with significant focus on rewarding key figures and recent entrants. Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has been fielded from the Ladwa seat, a strategic move highlighting his political importance within the party.
Saini’s political career has seen him serve as an MLA from Naraingarh in 2014, as a Lok Sabha MP from Kurukshetra in 2019, and more recently, as an MLA from Karnal in the 2024 bypolls.
The BJP’s candidate list includes 17 sitting MLAs and eight ministers who have been renominated. Notable leaders include Aseem Goel, Kanwar Pal Gurjar, Subhash Sudha, Mahipal Dhanda, Kamal Gupta, and JP Dalal, while the Vidhan Sabha Speaker Gian Chand Gupta and Deputy Speaker Ranbir Gangwa have also secured tickets for their constituencies.
Additionally, the party has emphasized women’s representation by including eight female candidates in this initial list. The ruling party has strategically fielded candidates on seats they held or contested in 2019, aiming for electoral continuity.
Among the prominent new entrants are former Lok Sabha MPs Dr. Arvind Sharma, who will contest from Gohana, and Sunita Duggal, fielded from Ratia (SC).
The list also includes several political family scions. Shruti Chaudhry, granddaughter of former Chief Minister Bansi Lal, will contest from Tosham, a seat previously held by her mother Kiran Chaudhry. Bhavya Bishnoi, grandson of former CM Bhajan Lal and son of Kuldeep Bishnoi, has been fielded from Adampur. Union minister Rao Inderjit Singh’s daughter, Aarti Singh Rao, is set to contest from Ateli.
