In a sharp rebuke of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, BJP MP and West Bengal BJP Vice President Saumitra Khan issued a dire warning, expressing concern that Banerjee could potentially threaten India’s security for political gain. Khan’s remarks come amidst escalating tensions between the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in West Bengal.
“I live in West Bengal, and I fear that Mamata Banerjee will close the path to Northeast India by shutting down the ‘Chicken’s Neck’ of India in the Siliguri region by 2026 if the Government of India does not pay attention to it,” Khan said, referring to the strategically vital Siliguri Corridor, often dubbed the ‘Chicken’s Neck’ due to its narrow geographical shape.
Khan accused Banerjee of being willing to go to any lengths for political advantage, alleging that she might even “accommodate terrorists and criminals” in the region to further her political agenda. “She can do anything for politics,” he added, suggesting that Banerjee’s actions could pose a significant threat to national security.
The BJP leader called on the Indian government and the judiciary to take note of the situation and act before it escalates. “The Courts and the Indian government should see to this, otherwise India would be in danger,” Khan warned, underscoring the gravity of his concerns.
Khan’s comments are likely to intensify the ongoing political battle in West Bengal, where the BJP has been trying to expand its influence, challenging the dominance of Mamata Banerjee’s TMC. The TMC, on the other hand, has accused the BJP of spreading fear and misinformation to destabilize the state government.
