Surinder Kamboj, the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) candidate contesting from Punjab’s Ferozepur Lok Sabha constituency, faced legal trouble as he was booked for allegedly permitting someone to record a video of him while casting his vote at a polling booth on Saturday.
According to polling officials, an unidentified individual recorded Kamboj as he cast his vote at a polling station in the village of Jiva Rai, located in the Guru Har Sahai town of Ferozepur district. The footage was subsequently shared on social media platforms, prompting authorities to take action.
The officials revealed that a case had been registered against Kamboj and the individual responsible for filming under Sections 126 and 132 of the Representation of People’s Act, as well as Section 171 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
It’s noteworthy that Kamboj is the father of AAP MLA Jagdeep Singh Goldy Kamboj from Jalalabad constituency.
In a separate incident, Neena Mittal, the MLA of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) from Rajpura assembly segment in Patiala district, received a notice for using her cellphone to record her voting process at a polling booth. Despite sharing the video on social media, she promptly deleted it. Election officials clarified that the use of mobile phones inside polling booths violates the election model code of conduct (MCC).
Furthermore, Arvind Khanna, the BJP candidate for the Sangrur Lok Sabha seat, was also issued a notice for displaying the party symbol inside a polling booth. Officials stated that displaying party symbols within 100 meters of a polling booth on election day is prohibited.
