In a dramatic turn of events, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has disclosed that Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College, displayed deceptive behavior during polygraph and layered voice analysis tests. This revelation comes amid the ongoing investigation into the tragic rape and murder of a trainee doctor at the hospital on August 9.

According to CBI officials, Ghosh was informed of the horrific crime at 9:58 am but failed to report it to the police immediately. Instead, he only lodged a vague complaint much later, which the CBI suggests was an attempt to obscure the true sequence of events. The agency has criticized Ghosh for introducing a “new theory of suicide,” which contradicts the external injuries observed on the victim’s body.

“He did not try to get an FIR lodged immediately. Rather, a new theory of suicide was introduced, which is not possible based on the visible injuries on the victim’s body,” the CBI stated.

The probe has further revealed that Ghosh contacted Officer In Charge (OC) Abhijit Mondal of the Tala Police Station at 10:03 am. Despite receiving this critical information, Mondal did not arrive at the crime scene promptly. The FIR was only registered at 11:30 am, well after the initial report of the crime.

Mondal, who has also been arrested in connection with the case, is accused of failing to act swiftly and failing to protect the crime scene, which led to the loss of vital evidence. The general diary entry, which incorrectly described the victim’s condition and location, is alleged to have been made in conspiracy with hospital authorities and other unknown persons.

The victim, a PG trainee at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, was found raped and murdered inside the seminar room where she had gone to rest. Her body was discovered by a doctor who immediately determined that she was dead. CCTV footage later led to the arrest of Sanjay Roy, a police volunteer, who was seen entering the room at 4:03 am.

The Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) in New Delhi has reportedly found discrepancies in Ghosh’s statements, confirming that his account was deceptive on crucial aspects of the case.

As the investigation unfolds, the CBI’s findings reveal troubling missteps and alleged cover-ups that may have hindered the pursuit of justice for the victim.
