At least four people lost their lives and several others were injured in a tragic rail accident near Jairamnagar station in Chhattisgarh’s Bilaspur district on Tuesday. The mishap occurred when a Korba–Bilaspur passenger train collided with a stationary goods train on the same track, causing severe damage and chaos at the site.

District Collector Sanjay Aggarwal confirmed the fatalities and warned that the death toll may rise as rescue operations continue. Videos from the scene showed the first coach of the passenger train lifted onto the goods train due to the force of the impact. Dozens of locals gathered at the spot as authorities launched immediate rescue and relief measures.

Rescue teams, along with railway and medical officials, are working round the clock to assist the injured and clear the wreckage. Train services on the Bilaspur–Howrah route have been completely disrupted, with several trains cancelled or diverted. Officials also reported extensive damage to the overhead electric lines and signalling system, which may take considerable time to restore.
