In a dramatic turn of events at Chandigarh airport on Thursday, actress and newly elected MP from Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi, Kangana Ranaut, was allegedly slapped by a female CISF constable. The incident, which has sparked widespread attention, occurred due to Ranaut’s past comments about the farmers’ protests.
The CISF constable, in a video that has since gone viral on social media, can be heard expressing her frustration in Hindi: “Isne byan diya tha na 100-100 Rs ke liye baith ti hai waha pe, meri maa baithi thi” (She had said they sit there for Rs 100, my mother was also sitting there).
Following the incident, the CISF suspended the woman constable and filed a complaint at the local police station to register an FIR. An inquiry committee, consisting of senior CISF officers, has been established to investigate the matter.
Ranaut, recounting the incident, stated that she was hit on the face and verbally abused by the CISF constable during a security check. In a video statement titled “Shocking rise in terror and violence in Punjab” posted on X, she mentioned that she was safe but expressed concerns about rising terrorism in Punjab. Kangana Ranaut recently won her seat in the Lok Sabha from the Mandi constituency in Himachal Pradesh, defeating her nearest Congress rival by over 74,000 votes.
This incident has its roots in a controversial tweet by Ranaut in December 2020, where she referred to an elderly woman participating in the farmers’ protests as someone “available for ₹100.” This statement led to demands for an apology from the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) chief Manjinder Singh Sirsa, who insisted on an “unconditional apology” within a week. Ranaut subsequently deleted the tweet following the backlash.
