Civil Aviation Minister Provides Update On Flight Operations After Microsoft Outage

As the aviation sector recovers, efforts are underway to resolve the remaining technical glitches and to restore full operational efficiency. The ministry remains committed to addressing any issues promptly and ensuring a smooth travel experience for all passengers.

In the wake of a massive global outage by Microsoft that caused significant disruptions across various sectors, India’s civil aviation sector is beginning to see a return to normalcy. Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu announced that airline systems across airports have resumed normal operations as of 3 AM on Saturday, a day after the outage wreaked havoc on Friday.

“Since 3 AM (Saturday), airline systems across airports have started working normally. Flight operations are going smoothly now,” K Rammohan Naidu said in a statement. The minister assured the public that the aviation ministry is actively monitoring operations at airports and airlines to handle travel adjustments and refunds, ensuring minimal inconvenience for passengers.

The global IT outage, which primarily affected Microsoft services, had ripple effects on airline systems worldwide, causing widespread disruptions. Despite these challenges, Air India reported no cancellations of flights on Saturday due to the outage. An Air India spokesperson stated, “We confirm that none of the Air India flights on 19 July were cancelled on account of the worldwide outage of travel systems, though there were some delays due to the impact of the outage on airport services. Air India’s own, resilient IT infrastructure remained unaffected yesterday and continues to function as normal.”

However, reports indicate that several airports in India, including those in Mumbai, New Delhi, and Chennai, continued to face technical issues on Saturday. Passengers experienced ongoing disruptions, such as long lines at check-in counters and slow processing times. Even though Microsoft had announced that services were restored, the residual effects of the outage lingered at major airports, causing further delays and inconveniences.

As the aviation sector recovers, efforts are underway to resolve the remaining technical glitches and to restore full operational efficiency. The ministry remains committed to addressing any issues promptly and ensuring a smooth travel experience for all passengers.
