On March 8, 2025, coinciding with International Women's Day, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, accompanied by BJP President JP Nadda, officially launched the Mahila Samriddhi Yojana at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. This initiative aims to provide financial assistance of ₹2,500 per month to women from economically weaker sections in Delhi.
Key Details of the Mahila Samriddhi Yojana:
- Eligibility Criteria: Initially, the scheme will benefit Below Poverty Line (BPL) cardholders. To qualify, recipients must not be beneficiaries of any other government financial assistance programs.
- Financial Implications: With approximately 3.8 million eligible women, the Delhi government anticipates a monthly expenditure of ₹950 crore, totaling around ₹11,400 crore annually. This accounts for nearly 15% of Delhi's current budget of ₹77,000 crore.
