As anticipation builds for the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections, a purported list of candidates from the Maharashtra Congress surfaced in the media on Friday, claiming to feature 15 prominent party leaders. However, the Congress party swiftly dismissed the list as fake by Friday night, with officials clarifying that it is not an official document.
The list, which was reportedly signed by Congress General Secretary K.C. Venugopal, raised eyebrows among party members and voters alike. While it remains unclear how this false list was leaked, Congress leaders have urged voters to disregard it and await the official candidate announcement, which is expected to be released on Saturday, October 18.
Leader of the Opposition Vijay Wadettiwar, addressing the media, indicated that Congress had finalized names for 30 constituencies, with an additional six candidates pending confirmation. He reassured supporters that the party is actively working to finalize its candidate list.
As the polling dates for the Maharashtra Assembly elections draw near, both the Mahayuti and Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance partners are engaged in final rounds of seat-sharing discussions. Some parties have already begun confirming candidates for specific constituencies. Notably, the Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA), led by Prakash Ambedkar, became the first party to release two official lists of candidates.
Voting for the 288 assembly seats in Maharashtra is set for November 20, with results expected to be announced on November 23. The current government’s term concludes on November 26.
With the election code of conduct now in effect, all political parties are ramping up their campaign efforts, vying for voter support in what promises to be a closely contested election.
