Following the horrific terrorist attack on tourists in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, the Congress party has firmly stated that only the Congress Working Committee (CWC) resolution and the statements issued by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi reflect the official position of the Indian National Congress (INC).
In an effort to maintain clarity, the party has distanced itself from personal comments made by individual leaders regarding the tragic incident. Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh underlined that any remarks given by Congress members to the media were solely their personal opinions and not representative of the party’s stance. Stressing the importance of unity during this critical time, Ramesh acknowledged lapses in security but called for ongoing cooperation between the government and the opposition.
The clarification came after senior Congress figures like Siddaramaiah and Vijay Waddetiwar made controversial statements concerning the terror attack, which led to the deaths of 26 tourists in the valley.
Taking to Twitter, Jairam Ramesh posted, "The Congress Working Committee met on 24 April 2025 and passed a resolution on the barbaric terror attack on tourists in Pahalgam two days ago. Subsequently, on 25 April 2025, the Congress President and the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha attended an all-party meeting and put forth the party's stand. Some Congress leaders are speaking to the media. They express only their personal views, they do not represent the views of the Indian National Congress (INC). At such a highly sensitive time, there should be no doubt that only the CWC (Congress Working Committee) resolution, the views expressed by Shri Mallikarjun Kharge and Shri Rahul Gandhi, and the views of authorised AICC office-bearers represent the official position of the INC."
