Congress candidate from New Delhi assembly constituency, Sandeep Dikshit, on Tuesday reacted sharply to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal’s allegations against the Haryana government, accusing them of “poisoning” the Yamuna water. Dikshit criticized Kejriwal for making such serious accusations without providing any concrete evidence and called for immediate action.
In an interview with ANI, Dikshit expressed his disbelief that Kejriwal was still roaming free despite his unverified claims. He emphasized the gravity of the accusation, stating, “This is a serious allegation. Arvind Kejriwal should clarify what kind of poison was supposedly found in the water. He is lying and still allowed to roam free. If an ordinary citizen were to make such an allegation against the government, they would be arrested immediately.”
Dikshit further questioned the lack of response from both the Haryana Police and Delhi Police. He raised concerns about the absence of action against Kejriwal, stating, “Where is the Election Commission? Why is no action being taken against him?”
The Congress leader suggested that there might be an internal alliance between the AAP and BJP or that institutions were not taking the issue seriously enough, despite the panic it might cause among the public. He also pointed out the discrepancy in how other cases, such as bomb threats against schools, had been handled with swift action.
The controversy erupted after Kejriwal accused the BJP-led Haryana government of deliberately poisoning the Yamuna water supplied to Delhi, alleging that the intent was to cause mass deaths and blame the AAP for the disaster. According to Kejriwal, Delhi’s alertness, particularly from the Delhi Jal Board, had prevented the contaminated water from mixing with the city’s drinking water.
In response, Dikshit demanded that Kejriwal either present concrete evidence to back his claims or face legal consequences for making baseless accusations. He called on the authorities to take immediate action, stressing that false claims of such magnitude should not go unchecked.
The exchange between Dikshit and Kejriwal highlights the growing tension ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections, with both parties trading barbs over key issues that are likely to influence the voters.
