Congress MP and Deputy Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Gaurav Gogoi, has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to be more cautious while endorsing individuals publicly, following the controversy surrounding podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter) on Monday, Gogoi stated, “I hope PM Modi will look more closely at the people he has endorsed publicly and on social media. In his personal life, he is welcome to support whoever he likes, but the Prime Minister of India must be expected to be more responsible.”
The remark comes after Ranveer Allahbadia, also known as ‘Beer Biceps,’ faced criticism for his inappropriate question to a contestant on comedian Samay Raina’s talent show India’s Got Latent. While serving as a judge, Allahbadia asked, “Would you rather watch your parents have sex every day or join them to finish it once and for all?” The question left fellow judges, including Samay Raina, Ashish Chanchlani, and Apoorva Mukhija, visibly uncomfortable.

Following widespread outrage, an FIR was lodged against Allahbadia, Raina, Mukhija, and the show’s organisers, citing the use of offensive language and demanding strict action. The controversy has since turned political, with leaders from both the BJP and the opposition weighing in. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis remarked that “freedom of expression has its limits,” while Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi announced plans to raise the issue in Parliament.
Allahbadia had previously received the ‘Disruptor of the Year’ award from PM Modi in March 2023 at the National Creators Award and has interviewed several Union ministers and public figures on his podcast. Despite his public apology, the backlash against him continues, fueling a broader debate on accountability in digital content and the significance of public endorsements by political leaders.
