'Deeply Anguished': PM Modi Mourns Loss Of 17 Lives In Hyderabad Fire, Announces Ex Gratia Aid

In a tragic incident that unfolded in the early hours of Sunday, at least 17 people lost their lives in a devastating fire at a commercial-residential building in Hyderabad’s Gulzar House, near the historic Charminar. The fire, which broke out before dawn, sent shockwaves across the city and drew swift responses from top leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Expressing sorrow over the loss of lives, the Prime Minister said he was “deeply anguished” by the tragedy and extended condolences to the bereaved families.

“Deeply anguished by the loss of lives due to a fire tragedy in Hyderabad, Telangana. Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. May the injured recover soon,” the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) posted on X (formerly Twitter).

The PM also announced an ex gratia of ₹2 lakh each from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) for the next of kin of the deceased. Additionally, ₹50,000 will be given to those injured in the incident, the PMO confirmed.

The fire, reportedly originating from a commercial establishment on the ground floor, quickly spread through the building. Eleven fire engines were rushed to the scene, and it took several hours for firefighters to bring the flames under control.
