As the national capital gears up for the Delhi Assembly elections on February 5, authorities have made extensive arrangements to ensure smooth polling amid tight security. Several establishments will remain closed on polling day, while essential services will continue to operate.

What’s Open?

  • Delhi Metro Services: The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has announced that metro services on all lines will commence at 4:00 AM to facilitate voters and election staff. Trains will run at a 30-minute frequency until 6:00 AM, after which normal schedules will resume.
  • DTC Buses: The Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) will run additional bus services on 35 routes from 4:00 AM, ensuring voters have ample transportation options.
  • Essential Services: Hospitals, pharmacies, and emergency services will remain fully operational to cater to the public.
  • Shops & Restaurants: Retail stores, grocery shops, eateries, and markets are expected to remain open, allowing residents to carry out their daily activities.

What’s Closed?

  • Liquor Shops: In accordance with Election Commission guidelines, all liquor stores and licensed establishments will remain closed from 6:00 PM on February 3 to 6:00 PM on February 5.
  • Schools & Colleges: Several educational institutions serving as polling stations will remain closed on election day. Additionally, the District Election Officer has directed a ‘Prabhat Rally’ on February 3 at 9:00 AM to raise voter awareness, involving students from various schools.
  • Government Offices & Banks: These establishments will remain shut on February 5 to allow employees to cast their votes.
  • Cinemas & Theatres: Likely to be closed during voting hours to encourage maximum voter turnout.
