The Delhi Police has detained a Class 12 student for sending a series of bomb threat emails to several schools in Delhi, according to news agency ANI. Deputy Commissioner of Police (South Delhi) Ankit Chauhan stated that the student admitted to sending 23 recent threat emails, as well as previous ones.
The investigation revealed that the student aimed to disrupt school examinations by creating panic. NDTV reported that the boy resorted to these threats to avoid taking his tests.
On Thursday, approximately 10 schools in Delhi received bomb threat emails, marking the latest in a string of similar incidents. Some schools, including Venkateshwar Global School, have previously been targeted. This school received a threatening email shortly after a mysterious blast at the Rohini Prashant Vihar PVR Multiplex on November 28.
Authorities also discovered that, in multiple cases, students from the same schools were behind the bomb threats. In one incident, two siblings from a school confessed to sending a threat email to postpone their exams. Both students were let off after counselling and a warning to their parents.
Police investigations have confirmed that most threats were hoaxes, but they caused widespread panic and disruptions, affecting over 100 schools in Delhi last month.
