Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Atishi has written to the Election Officer of Delhi, alleging that the Delhi Police is attempting to dismiss complaints against BJP workers accused of intimidating AAP volunteers on January 21 and 22. The allegations come amid a heated political environment in the capital ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections.
In her letter, CM Atishi claimed that the police are pressuring AAP workers to sign false statements, undermining their complaints of harassment and intimidation. “Our volunteers are being coerced into signing fabricated statements that contradict their original complaints,” she wrote, urging the Election Officer to intervene and ensure a fair investigation.
The alleged incident revolves around BJP workers reportedly targeting AAP volunteers during their door-to-door campaign over the weekend. According to AAP leaders, the intimidation tactics included verbal threats and attempts to disrupt campaign activities.
Atishi’s letter called for strict action against those responsible and demanded accountability from the Delhi Police, which she accused of bias. “The police should act impartially to uphold the democratic process rather than shielding those who indulge in such undemocratic acts,” the letter stated.
AAP leaders have also demanded that the Election Commission ensure free and fair elections by monitoring the conduct of law enforcement agencies. Meanwhile, the BJP has dismissed these allegations as baseless, accusing AAP of trying to deflect attention from its governance failures.
The incident adds to the growing tension between political parties as election campaigns intensify in Delhi. The Election Commission is expected to look into the matter and address concerns raised by the AAP leadership.
As the allegations spark political debate, the focus remains on the role of law enforcement in maintaining a neutral stance during the electoral process.
