In a statement that has sparked a mix of admiration and controversy, Avadh Ojha, Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) candidate for the Patparganj seat in the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections, has compared party convenor Arvind Kejriwal to Lord Krishna. Ojha, an educator-turned-politician, made the remark during an interview with IANS.

“Arvind Kejriwal is certainly like a god. I have always said that he is the incarnation of Krishna. Whenever someone tries to bring change in society, especially when they try to become a messiah for the poor, the societal ‘Kans’ (evil forces) come after them,” Ojha stated.

Ojha also lauded Kejriwal’s governance, claiming that Delhi has set a benchmark for development across the country. “Delhi has become a model state for the whole country. Some people are afraid that Kejriwal will become Prime Minister in 2029,” he added, emphasizing the transformative policies implemented under Kejriwal’s leadership.

Ojha recently joined the AAP in a high-profile induction ceremony presided over by Kejriwal on December 2. Days later, his candidacy for the Patparganj seat was announced as part of the party’s second list of nominees for the Delhi Assembly elections.

While the Election Commission of India has yet to announce the dates for the elections, they are expected to take place in February 2025. Political analysts anticipate an official announcement regarding the election schedule in early January.

The Aam Aadmi Party has already intensified its campaign, declaring candidates for all 70 Assembly seats in Delhi. With bold statements and a robust campaign strategy, the party aims to retain its hold over the Union Territory.

Ojha’s remarks have drawn sharp reactions from political circles, with opponents questioning the necessity of such lofty comparisons. However, AAP supporters see this as a reflection of the faith the party’s candidates have in Kejriwal’s leadership and vision.
