Commuters on the Delhi Metro’s Blue Line faced disruptions on Wednesday after a cable theft incident between the Moti Nagar and Kirti Nagar stations. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) confirmed the issue and stated that repairs would be completed only after operational hours end at night.

Trains on the affected section are operating at restricted speeds, causing delays throughout the day. The DMRC has urged passengers to plan their journeys accordingly, anticipating longer travel times. “The inconvenience is regretted,” the DMRC said in its statement.

The Blue Line, which connects Dwarka in the west to Noida and Vaishali in the east, is one of the busiest corridors of the Delhi Metro network, catering to thousands of daily commuters. The theft reportedly occurred late at night after metro services had concluded for the day, affecting train operations along this vital route.

This is not the first instance of cable theft impacting Delhi Metro services. A similar incident occurred in August on the Red Line, where signal cables were stolen between Jhilmil and Mansarovar Park stations, causing delays on the Dilshad Garden to Shahdara route.

The disruption comes just weeks after the Delhi Metro recorded its highest-ever daily ridership of 78.67 lakh passenger journeys on November 18. The Blue Line played a significant role in this milestone, with 20.80 lakh passengers using the route on that day.

The DMRC has highlighted the importance of addressing such incidents promptly to ensure smooth operations on its network, which is a lifeline for Delhi-NCR commuters. Meanwhile, passengers are advised to stay updated on service announcements and consider alternate travel arrangements where possible.
