Congress leaders vehemently criticized BJP MP Nishikant Dubey on Tuesday for his false claims about the Gandhi family, particularly asserting that Priyanka Gandhi Vadra attended Anant Ambani’s wedding. The Congress described Dubey’s statements as “blatant lies.”
During a debate on the Finance Bill in the Lok Sabha, Dubey alleged that a Gandhi family member was present at the recent wedding of industrialist Mukesh Ambani’s son, Anant Ambani. This claim was swiftly rebutted by Congress leaders, who demanded an apology.
Congress leader Supriya Shrinate warned Dubey of potential consequences if he did not retract his statement. “BJP MP Nishikant Dubey lied about Priyanka Gandhi ji attending the Ambani wedding. She did not attend at all. This man is addicted to lying, but this is also a matter of privilege. Apologize by holding your ears, otherwise, action will be taken against you,” she wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
KC Venugopal, another senior Congress leader, refuted Dubey’s claim in the Lok Sabha and questioned why the chair allowed such remarks. He received support from NCP (SCP) MP Supriya Sule, who accused the BJP of fabricating narratives to tarnish reputations.
“There is nothing wrong in attending a wedding, but let us not create fake narratives. The problem with the BJP is that it creates fake narratives and maligns families. It has maligned my family as well… Do you even think what families go through?” Sule asked.
Contrary to Dubey’s claims, senior Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi did not attend the opulent wedding. Many leaders from both the Opposition and the ruling party, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray, were in attendance.
