Former Karnataka minister and BJP MLA Munirathna faced an unusual attack during an event in Bengaluru on Wednesday, where an egg was thrown at him by unknown individuals. The incident occurred at a programme organized to commemorate the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in Laggere, Lakshmidevi Nagar.
BJP Accuses Congress
Following the attack, the BJP alleged that Congress workers were behind the act. The incident, which took place while Munirathna was walking back to his car after the public event, was caught on camera and has since gone viral on social media platforms.
Details of the Incident
The video shows Munirathna, the R R Nagar legislator, walking alongside his associates and police officers when an egg was hurled at him, striking him on the head. The attack led to visible discomfort, prompting the MLA to seek medical attention.
Immediate Medical Attention
Munirathna reported a burning sensation following the incident and subsequently visited KC General Hospital in Malleshwaram, approximately 7 km from the site of the attack. As per India Today Sources indicate that he remained at the hospital until midnight.
Police Investigation Underway
The Nandini Layout Police Station has filed a case to investigate the matter. Law enforcement officials are examining the footage and gathering evidence to identify the culprits.
Political Reactions
The BJP has strongly condemned the incident, accusing political opponents of resorting to such acts to intimidate their leaders. Congress, however, has yet to officially respond to the allegations.
