A major controversy erupted during the bypoll in Uttar Pradesh’s Milkipur constituency after a video of an elderly voter surfaced online, where he openly claimed to have cast six votes in favor of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The video, shared by YouTuber Amit Yadav, triggered a political storm, prompting reactions from both the Election Commission and the BJP.
In the viral clip, the man—seen draped in a BJP scarf—boasted about voting multiple times, stating, “The election staff was so good that I alone cast six votes.” When the reporter asked him repeatedly if he was serious, the elderly man reaffirmed his statement. In a shocking remark, he concluded, “I am a Hindu, would I vote for a Muslim?”
BJP Releases Counter Video, Calls It Fake News
Shortly after the video gained traction, BJP’s Uttar Pradesh unit released another clip of the same man, where he completely retracted his statement. In the 25-second counter-video, the voter clarified that he was referring to the six members of his family who had individually cast their votes and accused Amit Yadav of offering him ₹2,000 to make false claims.

Calling it a “fabricated controversy,” BJP UP’s official X handle alleged, “Samajwadi Party workers are trying to spread misleading news by posing as YouTubers. The Election Commission should take immediate action against those spreading such fake videos to influence the election process.”
Political Firestorm & EC’s Response Awaited
The incident has sparked intense debates online, with political parties taking sides. While opposition leaders have demanded strict action if voter fraud occurred, BJP maintains that the video was an attempt to discredit the election process. The Election Commission is yet to issue an official statement on the matter.
