Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly, Atishi Marlena, on Tuesday strongly rejected allegations made by the Bharatiya Janata Party, calling them completely baseless and politically motivated. Hitting back at BJP leader Kapil Mishra, Atishi said the controversy was being deliberately created to divert public attention from pressing issues such as pollution in the national capital.
Speaking to the media, Atishi asserted her deep respect for Sikh Gurus and said attempts were being made to question her faith and beliefs for political gain. “The accusations that the BJP is making are totally false. My family and I have immense respect for Sikh Gurus, especially Guru Tegh Bahadur. Our belief in their teachings is unwavering,” she said.
Atishi accused Kapil Mishra of dragging religious sentiments into politics to escape accountability on governance failures. “For the sake of politics, Kapil Mishra has insulted the Gurus. This is being done only to run away from serious discussions on Delhi’s pollution crisis and other real problems faced by people,” she alleged.
