The first photograph of Dr. Mohammad Umar, identified as the alleged mastermind behind Monday’s car blast near Delhi’s iconic Red Fort, was released by law enforcement agencies on Tuesday. According to India Today, Umar was employed at Al-Falah Medical College.

The blast, which occurred in the evening near Gate No.1 of the Red Fort Metro Station, claimed at least nine lives and injured more than 20 others. Initial investigations indicate that the incident was a deliberate terror attack, with Umar reportedly driving the vehicle when it exploded.

Investigators confirmed that the Hyundai i20 involved in the blast had been rigged with explosives. Forensic analysis suggested the use of high-grade materials, including ammonium nitrate and RDX, raising concerns over the sophistication of the operation. Authorities have also linked the attack to a Faridabad-based terror module, recently dismantled by Jammu and Kashmir police.

Delhi Police sources said the car involved in the blast had three occupants. The first registered owner, Mohd. Salman, was detained late Monday evening for questioning. He had sold the car one-and-a-half years ago in Okhla to a person named Devendra. Subsequently, the vehicle changed hands twice—first to Ambala and then to Tariq from Pulwama. Police are actively tracing these individuals as part of the investigation. The vehicle had also received a parking violation challan in Faridabad on September 20, 2025.

A case has been filed at Kotwali Police Station under sections 16 and 18 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), along with provisions of the Explosives Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Authorities continue to investigate the full extent of the network behind this attack.
