Former Jharkhand Chief Minister and senior Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) leader Champai Soren has dismissed rumors of him joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), categorically stating that he is in Delhi for personal reasons and not to meet any BJP leaders.
Speaking to the media, Soren addressed the speculation head-on, saying, “I did not meet anyone. I came here (Delhi) for some personal work. I did not want to meet them (BJP leader).” His statement comes amidst growing chatter about potential political shifts in Jharkhand, where the JMM currently holds power in alliance with the Congress.
When pressed further about the rumors of his alleged defection to the BJP, Soren seemed perplexed, remarking, “I am not able to understand who is saying all of this.” His clear denial aims to put to rest the swirling speculations that have caused a stir in political circles.
Champai Soren, a key figure in Jharkhand politics, has been a close ally of Chief Minister Hemant Soren and a long-time member of the JMM. His sudden visit to Delhi had fueled speculation, particularly given the ongoing political maneuverings at the state and national levels. However, Soren’s firm denial suggests that, at least for now, he remains committed to his party and its leadership.
The statement has provided some relief to the JMM, which has been wary of possible defections amidst the BJP’s attempts to expand its influence in the state. For now, Champai Soren’s visit to Delhi appears to be purely personal, as he asserted, with no political overtones or implications.
