Gaurav Gogoi Hits Back At BJP, Says Attack On Rahul Gandhi Meant To ‘Confuse And Tarnish His Image’

In a sharp counter to the Bharatiya Janata Party’s criticism of Leader of the Opposition and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi’s upcoming visit to Germany, Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi on Wednesday accused the ruling party of attempting to divert attention from serious questions raised in Parliament.

Gogoi said the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi were “unequipped” to respond to the issues Gandhi highlighted in the Lok Sabha, especially those concerning electoral transparency and the government’s decision-making process.

Taking on the BJP, Gogoi remarked, "The BJP and PM Modi do not have an answer to the question raised by Rahul Gandhi yesterday. Inside the House, the Leader of the Opposition raised a very important question about why the government changed the law regarding the deletion of CCTV footage...why the BJP government does not want to make the machine-readable voter list public—these are current issues."

He further asserted that the party’s refusal to engage with these concerns reflects a larger threat looming over India’s democratic institutions. “Democracy is in danger,” he warned, accusing the government of shielding itself from public accountability.

According to Gogoi, the BJP’s strategy is clear: avoid the substantive questions and instead shift focus to personal attacks on Rahul Gandhi. “When the BJP does not have an answer to Rahul Gandhi's questions, their only recourse is to confuse and tarnish his image,” he said.

Despite the criticisms, Gogoi affirmed that the Congress would remain steadfast in its mission to safeguard constitutional values and electoral rights. “They will keep doing their work. Rahul Gandhi and Congress will continue to raise their voices for the protection of the Constitution and the security of the common man's vote...” he added.
