Finance Minister Kanubhai Desai has unveiled the Gujarat Budget for 2025-26, introducing significant investments in infrastructure, renewable energy, and disaster management. With increasing vehicular congestion across the state, the government has prioritized road expansion, proposing the development of multiple high-speed corridors and expressways.

To strengthen Gujarat’s transport network, a provision of ₹1,020 crore has been allocated for the construction of expressways and high-speed road corridors. Under the “Garvi Gujarat High-Speed Corridor” initiative, 12 new high-speed corridors spanning 1,367 km will be developed, ensuring faster and more efficient connectivity.

Additionally, two major expressways are planned to enhance intra-state connectivity. The Deesa-Pipavav Expressway will link Banaskantha to the Saurashtra coastline, improving trade and transport routes. Another key project, the Ahmedabad-Rajkot Expressway, will be extended and named the “Somnath-Dwarka Expressway,” facilitating better access to religious and tourist sites such as Dwarka, Somnath, and Porbandar.

Alongside road infrastructure, the state has also set ambitious targets for clean energy. The government aims to expand renewable energy capacity beyond 100 gigawatts by 2030. Currently, a 37-gigawatt renewable energy park is under development in Kutch, and additional funding has been allocated for energy storage and pump storage projects to ensure energy security.

Given Gujarat’s vulnerability to natural calamities, the budget also focuses on strengthening disaster management. Plans include constructing cyclone-resistant infrastructure such as roads and power facilities to mitigate damage from frequent storms and earthquakes.

Further, the state government is working to enhance air connectivity. With assistance from the central government, plans are in place to expand airports in Surat, Vadodara, Bhavnagar, and Porbandar. Additionally, a new greenfield airport is proposed for Dahod to boost regional connectivity.
