On the day of polling for all 90 seats in Haryana, Captain Yogesh Bairagi, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate from the Julana Assembly constituency, raised serious allegations of booth capturing at a polling station in Akalgarh. His claims have stirred significant controversy amidst the ongoing election.

In a statement to the media, Bairagi revealed that he received a call regarding alleged booth capturing and swiftly made his way to the polling station to assess the situation. “I received a call in the morning about some miscreants forcing people to vote for their candidate. I quickly reached the polling station in Akalgarh to assess the situation,” Bairagi explained.

Footage shared on social media platform X shows Bairagi being heckled and pushed by a group of individuals at the polling booth, despite the presence of security personnel. Eyewitnesses reported that during the tumultuous encounter, Bairagi was urged to leave the premises. Some voters at the booth alleged that BJP members were attempting to seize control of the polling area, leading to a chaotic scene.

Contrarily, the police released a statement declaring that the reports of booth capturing were false. Their comments indicate a denial of the allegations made by Bairagi and highlight the tensions between political factions in the area.

Bairagi, a 35-year-old former army officer and commercial pilot, is competing against Congress leader and Olympian Vinesh Phogat in this election. With his military background, Bairagi’s candidacy has garnered attention, especially during these heated electoral moments.

As polling continued, over 22% voter turnout was recorded in the first four hours. Among the early voters were prominent figures such as Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, and Olympic medallist Manu Bhaker. Opposition Leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda and other Congress leaders, including Kumari Selja and Randeep Singh Surjewala, also cast their votes in the early hours.

With a total of 1,027 candidates contesting the elections, the stakes are high, especially for the Congress party, which aims to regain power in the state after a decade. Voting began at 7 AM and will conclude at 6 PM, with vote counting scheduled for October 8.
