Here’s Why Donald Trump Says He Deserves A Nobel Peace Prize, Pakistan Backs The Claim

Former U.S. President Donald Trump has once again stirred global headlines by lamenting that he will “never” receive the Nobel Peace Prize — despite what he called "historic peace efforts" in conflicts ranging from India-Pakistan to Russia-Ukraine and the Middle East. But in a dramatic turn, the government of Pakistan has come out in open support of Trump — formally recommending his name for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize.

In a lengthy post on his social media platform Truth Social on Friday, Trump claimed he brokered a new peace deal between Congo and Rwanda — a war he described as “more violent than most” — and touted it as a “Great Day for Africa.” The treaty, signed with the help of Secretary of State Marco Rubio, is expected to be finalized in Washington this coming Monday.

But Trump quickly shifted gears, saying he is unlikely to be honored for any of his peacemaking efforts. “I won’t get a Nobel Peace Prize for stopping the war between India and Pakistan, I won’t get it for Serbia and Kosovo, or even for the Abraham Accords,” he said, adding sarcastically, “No matter what I do.”

His comments come just weeks after tensions flared between India and Pakistan following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack. After India conducted targeted strikes inside Pakistan-occupied Kashmir on May 7, retaliatory Pakistani attempts on May 8–10 led to fears of escalation. A ceasefire was announced after talks between the two countries' military leaderships, but Trump has since claimed that U.S. intervention under his leadership played a key role in calming the crisis.

Pakistan’s Stunning Endorsement

In a surprise diplomatic gesture, the Government of Pakistan released a statement lauding Trump’s role in defusing the crisis and formally recommending him for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize. Calling his role “decisive and visionary,” Islamabad said:

“At a moment of heightened regional turbulence, President Trump demonstrated great strategic foresight and stellar statesmanship... His intervention averted a broader conflict between the two nuclear states that could have had catastrophic consequences.”

The statement praised Trump’s history of “pragmatic diplomacy,” referencing his earlier offers to mediate on Kashmir and his approach to the Middle East, particularly amid ongoing tensions in Gaza and with Iran.

Mixed Reactions Globally

Trump’s claims have, as expected, divided opinion. Former National Security Advisor John Bolton dismissed the notion, saying Trump is “obsessed” with winning the Nobel Prize because former President Barack Obama received one in 2009. Bolton added:

“He tried unsuccessfully to claim credit for the recent India-Pakistan ceasefire. He's failing in Iran, and hasn’t resolved Ukraine either.”

Indian officials, meanwhile, reiterated that the ceasefire with Pakistan came through direct military-level talks, not U.S. mediation. “While we welcome global concern for peace, the de-escalation resulted from direct dialogue between the DGMOs,” said a source in India’s Ministry of External Affairs.
