'I Consider Women A Form of Goddess': BJP’s Kailash Vijayvargiya Slams ‘Skimpy Clothes’ As Foreign Concept

Senior BJP leader and Madhya Pradesh cabinet minister Kailash Vijayvargiya has sparked a debate with his remarks disapproving of women wearing “skimpy clothes,” calling it a foreign concept that clashes with Indian traditions.

While speaking at a World Environment Day event in Indore on Thursday, Vijayvargiya said, “I consider women as a form of goddess.” He emphasized that the Indian idea of beauty differs greatly from Western standards.

"If a girl here (in India) wears good and pretty clothes, does good makeup and wears nice jewellery, then people consider her very beautiful. But abroad, if a (woman) wears less clothing, then it is considered good. Now, this is their (foreigners’) thinking," Vijayvargiya stated.

He made these comments while praising a short speech by BJP Indore unit president Sumit Mishra, rejecting a popular Western proverb that compares short speeches to short dresses. “I don’t agree with this foreign saying which says speeches should be like women's short clothes — enough to cover the subject and short enough to be interesting. This is not our culture,” he asserted.
