Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday inaugurated a series of transformative projects in Delhi, emphasizing their role in enhancing the quality of life for the city’s residents. Calling it an “important day for Delhi’s development,” PM Modi highlighted the diverse nature of the initiatives aimed at boosting infrastructure, housing, and education in the capital.

“Today is an important day for Delhi’s development. At a programme in Ashok Vihar, I will be inaugurating and laying the foundation stones for a wide range of development works which will boost ‘Ease of Living’ for the people of Delhi,” PM Modi announced on X (formerly Twitter).

Projects Inaugurated

  1. Housing for JJ Cluster Dwellers:
PM Modi inaugurated 1,675 newly constructed flats at Ashok Vihar for residents of Jhuggi Jhopri (JJ) clusters. These housing units aim to provide dignified living conditions to economically weaker sections.
  2. World Trade Centre at Nauroji Nagar:
The state-of-the-art World Trade Centre was also unveiled, positioning Delhi as a hub for global trade and business.
  3. General Pool Residential Accommodation at Sarojini Nagar:
Modern Type-II Quarters were inaugurated to accommodate government employees, ensuring improved living conditions for public servants.
  4. CBSE Integrated Office Complex at Dwarka:
The prime minister inaugurated the Integrated Office Complex of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), a move expected to streamline the board’s operations.

Foundation Stones for New Projects

PM Modi also laid the foundation stones for three ambitious projects worth ₹600 crore for Delhi University:

  • Eastern Campus at Surajmal Vihar: A new academic hub with advanced facilities.
  • Western Campus at Dwarka: Designed to cater to the growing educational needs of students in West Delhi.
  • Veer Savarkar College at Roshanpura, Najafgarh: The college, named after the noted right-wing ideologue, is set to feature state-of-the-art facilities.

Political Sparring Over Veer Savarkar College

The naming of Veer Savarkar College has sparked a political row. The Congress criticized the move, accusing the BJP of glorifying Savarkar, whom they allege submitted mercy petitions to the British during India’s struggle for independence.

“BJP is glorifying those who sought British approval, while sidelining true freedom fighters,” a Congress spokesperson said.

In response, the BJP countered that the Congress’s opposition only reflected its tendency to insult great personalities. “The Congress now identifies itself by ridiculing India’s icons,” said a BJP leader.
