Washington, D.C.: US President Donald Trump has officially signed the commission appointing Kash Patel as the ninth Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), White House Deputy Chief of Staff Dan Scavino announced on Thursday. The signing took place in a ceremony at the Oval Office.
Sharing the news on X, Scavino wrote, "Moments ago in the Oval Office. Congratulations to the Ninth Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Kash Patel." He added, "President Trump has officially signed the commission. Follow Kash on his new X account: @FBIDirectorKash."
The White House hailed Patel's confirmation as a pivotal step in Trump's mission to restore integrity and fairness in law enforcement. In an official statement, it emphasized that the FBI will now refocus on its core mission: enforcing justice impartially and without bias.
Patel, a close Trump ally, was confirmed by the Senate on Thursday with a narrow 51-49 vote. While all Senate Democrats opposed him, he secured support from most Republicans, including Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell. However, Republican Senators Lisa Murkowski and Susan Collins dissented.
