Is All Not Well In Yogi Government? Political Turmoil And Absenteeism Mark CM’s Meetings

The growing absenteeism of the Deputy CMs from these meetings could signal deeper issues within the BJP’s state leadership

Amid the ongoing political turmoil in Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is working tirelessly to stabilize his government’s position following a disappointing performance in the recent Lok Sabha elections. The BJP’s seat count plummeted to 33, a dramatic drop of 29 seats from the 2019 elections. In contrast, the INDIA bloc has gained significant traction, with the Samajwadi Party (SP) securing 37 seats, up by 32, and the Congress winning six seats.

In response to these setbacks, CM Yogi has been conducting a series of high-stakes meetings with party MLAs to strategize for the upcoming by-elections. However, the absence of both Deputy Chief Ministers from these crucial meetings has raised concerns and speculation about internal discord within the state government.

Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya was notably missing from the meeting with the Prayagraj division on July 25, while Deputy CM Brajesh Pathak skipped the Lucknow division meeting scheduled for today. Pathak, who is also an MLA from Lucknow Cantt, left for Delhi just before the meeting with the Lucknow MLAs was set to begin.

The Chief Minister has been holding these meetings as part of his strategy to regain political ground. On July 24, he met with MLAs from the Moradabad and Bareilly divisions, followed by a session with the Meerut and Prayagraj MLAs on July 25. Today’s agenda included the Lucknow division, but the absence of key figures like Pathak has created a stir.

The growing absenteeism of the Deputy CMs from these meetings could signal deeper issues within the BJP’s state leadership, potentially complicating CM Yogi’s efforts to address the party’s electoral challenges and reassert its dominance ahead of the by-elections.
