In a crucial meeting of the Consultative Committee of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) held on May 26, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar strongly countered allegations made by the Opposition regarding India's recent cross-border military action, ‘Operation Sindoor’. The operation was a direct response to the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people, including a Nepali citizen.

Jaishankar categorically dismissed Congress's claims that Pakistan was forewarned about the strike. He clarified that Pakistan’s Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) was informed only after the successful completion of the mission. He emphasized that communication was made just 30 minutes post-strike and only after India's official announcement had already been released.

The operation, which took place on the night of May 7–8, specifically targeted terror hubs across the Line of Control, including major headquarters of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM). Jaishankar highlighted that no previous Indian government had dared to take such bold action against the "epicentre of terrorism."

The meeting witnessed tense exchanges between the ruling NDA and the Opposition, but Jaishankar held firm in asserting the government’s intent and strategy. He made it clear that any future dialogue with Pakistan would be restricted solely to issues concerning Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (POK) and terrorism. He reaffirmed the government’s policy, stating that “Operation Sindoor will continue as long as provocations persist.”

On the issue of rising threats in Punjab, Jaishankar assured the committee that India's counter-terror strategy is under constant evolution and remains prepared to address new threats as they emerge.

The Minister also issued a stern signal regarding the Indus Waters Treaty, indicating that India’s posture has shifted. He mentioned that “serious steps” are being taken, and visible impact can be expected in the near future.
