The death toll in the tragic Jalgaon train accident has climbed to 13 following the discovery of a headless body along the railway tracks, police reported on Thursday. The incident occurred when passengers of the Mumbai-bound Pushpak Express disembarked after an emergency chain-pulling event and were hit by the Karnataka Express, traveling from Bengaluru to Delhi, on the adjacent tracks in Maharashtra’s Jalgaon district on Wednesday evening.

“Of the 13 victims, eight have been identified so far, including two through their Aadhaar cards,” stated Special Inspector General of Police Dattatraya Karale. The eight identified victims include four individuals hailing from Nepal, according to Jalgaon district information officer Yuvraj Patil.

Among the 15 injured, 10 are currently receiving treatment—nine at the Pachora Civil Hospital and one at a medical facility in Jalgaon city. The remaining individuals, who suffered minor injuries, have been discharged, officials said.

Meanwhile, the Lucknow-Mumbai Pushpak Express reached its final destination, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus in Mumbai, at approximately 1:20 am on Thursday, as confirmed by a railway spokesperson. Senior officials, including the Central Railway’s general manager, inspected the accident site late Wednesday night.

The incident has prompted concerns over passenger safety and coordination between train operations. Further investigations are underway to determine the exact circumstances leading to the tragedy.
