Air travel is set to become more expensive as aviation turbine fuel (ATF) prices were increased by 1.45% in the latest monthly revision. State-owned fuel retailers raised ATF prices by ₹1,318.12 per kilolitre to ₹91,856.84 per kilolitre in Delhi, reflecting international oil price trends.
In other major cities, the new rates stand at ₹94,551.63 per kilolitre in Kolkata, ₹85,861.02 in Mumbai, and ₹95,231.49 in Chennai. This marks the second consecutive monthly hike in jet fuel prices. Earlier, on November 1, prices had increased by ₹2,941.5 per kilolitre (3.3%), following reductions in October and September.
Aviation fuel prices, which account for a significant portion of airline operating costs, are revised monthly by Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL), and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL). These adjustments are based on global benchmark prices and exchange rate fluctuations.
The rise in ATF prices is expected to impact airfares, particularly during the busy holiday season. Travelers may face higher ticket prices as airlines adjust to the increased operating costs.
In addition to the ATF hike, the price of 19-kg commercial LPG cylinders—used extensively by hotels and restaurants—has also been increased. However, the cost of domestic 14-kg LPG cylinders remains unchanged, providing some relief to households.
This trend of rising fuel prices could affect the affordability of air travel and other sectors reliant on fuel, potentially altering consumer behavior during the holiday period.
