The counting of votes for the Jharkhand Assembly elections has brought dramatic shifts in the state’s political dynamics. According to the Election Commission of India, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is leading in 42 seats, while the opposition INDIA bloc is trailing with 35. Hemant Soren, the Chief Minister and key figure in the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), is leading in the Barhait constituency by a margin of 2,812 votes, bolstering his party’s confidence.
However, Sita Soren, a prominent JMM leader and sister-in-law of Hemant Soren, is trailing Congress candidate Irfan Ansari by 4,370 votes in Jamtara, raising questions about the party’s overall standing. Meanwhile, BJP’s Leader of Opposition, Amar Kumar Bauri, is trailing behind JMM’s Umakant Rajak in Chandankiyari by a slim margin of 1,265 votes, hinting at a closely contested race.
NDTV’s projections align with the Election Commission’s figures, showing the NDA leading in 42 constituencies while the INDIA bloc secures 35. The neck-and-neck competition highlights the critical role of individual constituencies in determining the final outcome.

The election has seen fierce battles, with the BJP attempting to consolidate its position while the INDIA bloc, comprising JMM, Congress, and other allies, seeks to retain its influence in the state. Hemant Soren, who has led the state government over the past five years, remains a key player, with his victory in Barhait seen as a symbolic win for the INDIA bloc.
As counting progresses, all eyes remain on constituencies like Jamtara and Chandankiyari, where the margins are slim, and any shift in votes could tip the scales. The final outcome will determine whether the NDA can reclaim its foothold in the state or if the INDIA bloc will continue to steer Jharkhand’s governance.
